John Clayton Doyle is a visual artist working at the intersection of film, casting and dance. His work is a mosaic of music video references and real stories about the life-affirming power of the arts. Through his performance, film and community arts projects, he helps people across diverse populations and abilities discover their stardust and documents their joy as they begin to see it. John has a distinct gift for mining undiscovered gems and polishing them until they shine.

John is the writer and director of “I’m An Electric Lampshade,” (2023) an award winning feature length docu-fiction based on the true story of Doug McCorkle, an accountant who retires to become the world’s least likely pop star. The music-centric film was shot in the United States, Mexico and the Philippines with an international cast, all chasing the same dream as McCorkle. New York Times: “…an event that few are likely to forget.” 

John is the Founder and Artistic Director of Harlem Dance Club Inc., a 501c3 community arts organization dedicated to the healing power of music and dance. HDC has been offering free dance programming in Harlem to people of all ages and all abilities since 2013.

John’s movement work has been presented at Parque Lage (Brazil), MassMoCa,The Brooklyn Museum, Alvin Ailey Citibank Theater, Joe’s Pub, The Richard Rodgers Amphitheater, Clemente Soto Velez, and at nightclubs around the world.
